At Nissae Souss, we believe that literacy is the first step toward empowerment. Without the ability to read, write, or understand basic information, many women remain excluded from opportunities, vulnerable to exploitation, and unable to fully participate in family or community life.
Our Literacy Program, launched in 2013, directly addresses this barrier by offering free, accessible literacy classes to women across the Taroudant region. To date, over 5,000 women have taken part in the program — many of them mothers, widows, or women who never had the chance to attend school. These classes are more than educational sessions; they are gateways to dignity, confidence, and independence.
Women learn to read and write in Arabic, manage daily tasks like reading medicine labels, handling documents, or assisting their children with homework. The program also integrates topics such as health education, civic rights, financial literacy, and family wellbeing, making the learning practical and empowering.
Classes are held in safe, welcoming spaces within our centers or community hubs, led by trained facilitators who understand the social and emotional needs of adult learners. Many participants go on to join our vocational or entrepreneurship programs, having gained the confidence to take control of their lives.
Through this program, we are not just teaching women how to read — we are helping them rewrite their futures.
